white boy rick

Hustler. Dealer. Kingpin. Informant. #WhiteBoyRickMovie - Based on the true story. Only in theaters this Fall. Set in 1980s Detroit at the height of the crack epidemic and the War on Drugs, WHITE BOY RICK is based on the moving true story of a blue-collar father and his teenage son, Rick Wershe Jr., who became an undercover police informant and later a drug dealer, before he was abandoned by his handlers and sentenced to life in prison.

POSITIVES…
- newcomer Richie Merritt does a perfectly fine job in the title role of White Boy Rick
- Matthew McConaughey is great in the role of Richard Wershe Sr
- the relationship between Father and Son, and who they are is the strong emotional core of this story
- as a biopic, the true story of Rick Wershe Jr is definitely worthy of a movie

NEGATIVES…
- as it goes, the main problem with biopics that span multiple years is that the overall story can feel too condensed.
- some of the plot threads felt incomplete
- there are some characters that aren’t more fleshed out
- story can feel a little dry half the time
