can you ever forgive me

Melissa McCarthy stars in the adaptation of the memoir CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME?, the true story of best-selling celebrity biographer (and friend to cats) Lee Israel (Melissa McCarthy) who made her living in the 1970's and 80's profiling the likes of Katharine Hepburn, Tallulah Bankhead, Estee Lauder and journalist Dorothy Kilgallen.

POSITIVES…
- Amazing performance by Melissa McCarthy as Lee Israel. In a great character study of a role.
- Richard E Grant is spectacular as her friend Jack Hock.
- The chemistry McCarthy and Grant have together is great to watch.
- This has a fascinating but simple story to see play out on screen, and everything involving the crimes Lee Israel committed kept my attention until the end.

NEGATIVES…
- It’s a slow burn and seemed content with it’s slow pacing. A little too slow for my taste at times.
- Lee Israel is not a likeable person at all, so hopefully you can put up with her schtick.

P.S….
- Somehow I was expecting more fun 1990s era references. However, I really shouldn’t be expecting that from this kind of film.
